Registration for children and volunteers for the 2020 Vacation Bible School is now open. Check out the following link to sign up: https://2020.cokesburyvbs.
What is it about? — Knights of North Castle: Quest for the King’s Armor invites children to be strong in the Lord and in the strength of God’s power by exploring how we put on the armor of God. Kids will take on the role of brave Knights and begin their quest each session by opening the King’s Book. They’ll explore Old and New Testament stories and discover different pieces of protective armor—the Belt of Truth, the Breastplate of Justice, the Shoes of Peace, the Shield of Faith, and the Helmet of Salvation—at work in the lives of familiar Bible characters, and explore how that armor works in their own lives as they follow and serve God.
How Does it Work? — Families with children in Pre-K through middle school register online. There will be a drive-through pick-up-day where we will send home a goody bag stuffed with supplies and instructions with each family. Families will need a computer, phone or tablet with internet access to participate in VBS.
The Rally — Each day children will participate in a Virtual VBS session on GoToMeeting. This online platform similar to Zoom will allow the children to hear the Bible story, sing together and learn about the day’s Bible truth. We will also be starting each day’s craft during this meeting time. This meeting will be recorded and available for families who can’t participate in the live event to view later in the day. If your children have neighbors or close friends they are seeing now, consider inviting them to join VBS and completing activities together for even more fun.
“Knightly” Meetings — Children will have a daily opportunity to meet online in a small group (1 adult leader and a maximum of 10 children). The group will complete fun activities, talk about the day’s bible truth and have a chance to connect with each other.
Parent’s Devotional — A short, optional GoToMeeting will be offered each evening for the parents, grandparents and other adults helping make VBS a success at home. We will be sharing a brief devotional, answering any questions about VBS and praying for the families participating.
Knight’s Toolbox” — Additional optional resources will be sent home in the goody bags so each family can decide how much VBS they want to do. Some of the included resources will be daily themed snack ideas, fun games and science experiments.
Volunteers needed — While we won’t have children filling the pews in the church, we still need volunteers to make this a success. We are looking for volunteers willing to help get supplies ready to go home with the children, lead small group meetings online (we will provide the “lesson plans”, you just need the computer and internet), hand out supplies at the drive-through pick-up, and of course, pray that this endeavor is a success.
