Mission Statement
Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from
it. Proverbs 22:6
St. Andrews Academy is an outreach ministry of St. Andrews United Methodist Church. We believe that it is the responsibility of the Christian Community to reach out to all
children in the name of Christ. We cultivate, in all of our students, those skills necessary for them to grow and develop to their full potential. It is our goal to help children develop a strong, positive self-image. By both teaching and example, we will help them to understand what it means to live as a Christian. The teachings at St. Andrews Academy
will, at all times, reflect the love, acceptance, and grace exemplified by Jesus Christ.
Goals
- Always put the interest of the children first. Early childhood proves that play is an important part of the learning forum for young children. Play is the most important way children learn during their preschool years. Children need to explore and discover the wonderful world around them to make sense of it.
- Provide children with many different experiences. Children need to experience activities using their senses to gain interest in learning.
On a typical day in our classrooms, your child will participate in many
activities such as painting, imaginative play, building with blocks, working
with puzzles, looking at books, playing musical instruments, dancing, using and
creating patterns, making new observations through science and discovery,
outdoor activities, and much more. - Encourage
children to explore and discover. Our classrooms will be full of things for
your child to explore and discover through his/her self-directed play. At this age, it is not important to teach your child to memorize the alphabet or count to 100. Exciting your child to learn through opportunities and discoveries about him/herself and God’s world is far more important. - Enhance learning opportunities. Our teachers will be encouraging your child to reach his/her full potential. Your child will grow in many different areas- language, physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual. Our teachers
will be enhancing the learning environment through asking open-ended questions that will expand your child’s thinking, reasoning, and language skills. - Teach, by example, Christian principles in everyday activities. It is important that all of us not just talk the talk, but walk the Christian walk on a daily basis. Leading by example, by God’s example, is the best way in which to teach a child.
